December 31, 2008, Washington, DC: Journalist Peter Lippman, who previously wrote a series of articles for The Advocacy Project’s On the Record newsletter, has produced a set of travel journals about his recent trip to Bosnia.

Lippman recently returned from a six-week visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina, with a short visit to Bucharest at the end. During his stay in Bosnia, Lippman conducted research and interviews for a book he is writing, and paid close attention to the nationwide municipal election campaign.

“Any election campaign in Bosnia is an occasion for the renewed, creative expression of nationalist tension, and for a free-for-all of mud-slinging and fear-mongering,” Lippman writes in his first journal. “Since the war, all politics has been taking place in the context of a country with a barely functioning state, carelessly administered by the international community. So during the elections, the internecine dynamics of the domestic political infrastructure, staffed by war profiteers and their political successors, come into high contrast.”
