December 31, 2008, Butwal, Nepal: The Jagaran Media Center (JMC) has successfully completed its first year of programming on community radio station Radio Jagaran 93.6 MHz in Butwal.
Since its inception, Radio Jagaran has been advocating for sustainable peace, peoples’ democracy, press freedom, and a society free from discrimination. A celebration of its first anniversary was held December 17.
Jagaran Media Center (JMC), an Advocacy Project partner, was established in 2000 by young and motivated journalists from the Dalit community, one of the lowest castes in Nepal. Since then, JMC has been extremely successful in raising Dalit issues at the local, national and international levels. JMC produces an e-newsletter and highlights the realities of caste exploitation. It’s message is targeted toward both Dalits and non-Dalits in order to foster a society free of caste discrimination.
