To give an update on our quilting progress: it’s in the works!
We have a lovely group of Roma women creating their Peace Quilt to illustrate a Romani engagement. Since family is central to their values, this seemed an appropriate theme, and one about which all were excited.
The quilt will be centered around a piece depicting the meeting of the families to discuss the engagement, while the side panels will focus on the main characters. Rather than everyone making their own individual piece, the women wanted to share the work on all of the pieces, thus really promoting the spirit of the community.
They’re making remarkable progress.
Recently, we were joined by Nina Murray, Cultural Attache of the US Embassy in Vilnius, who was interested to learn more about the project (and even contributed to the stitching!) The US Embassy has been involved with the Roma community here through the CULP programme, in which US Military Cadets have been teaching English to several communities of Lithuanian society.
Please take a look at the photos documenting our work for more sneak previews of the Peace Quilt from Vilnius.
Thanks for all of the support from everyone!
