Africa: Altered States, Ordinary Miracles by Richard Dowden. He’s very knowledgable and gives good introductions to a lot of countries and issues affecting the continent at the moment. I learnt a lot, including about the countries I ‘know’. It also manages, I think, to tread the often-difficult line between being too critical of governments and not criticising enough.
