January 5, 2009, Jerusalem: Supporters of peace in the Gaza Strip will meet at the Alternative Information Center (AIC) in Beit Sahour at 5 p.m. tonight to join a march to the Nativity Church in Bethlehem.
The violence in Gaza continues to escalate for a second week as Israel mounts a ground offensive, prompting a humanitarian emergency. Medical facilities are being pushed to the brink as casualties increase, and Israel is refusing the ceasefire proposals.
The AIC held an open forum for taking action in Gaza Saturday at the AICafe, and released a list of simple steps people can take to help civilians in crisis.
The group is urging people to contact local media and political leaders to apply pressure to end the attacks, to organize and join local demonstrations, to pass out flyers with facts about Gaza, to fly a Palestinian flag, and follow the call by Palestinian civil society for boycotts, divestments and sanctions against Israel until it agrees to abide by international law.
Several groups have also started online petitions pressuring world leaders to end the Gaza crisis.
