I have stumbled on one of the best blogs. Your post are very interesting. It is particularly interesting for me to read about life in Burundi as written by a non-burundian. Your insight into and grasp of things Burundian- whether it is just life, current affairs or politics-is pretty impressive.

Count me among your fans, will be reading all your future posts.

Laura

Your blog from Burundi has been great, informative and moving. I've learned a lot, and care a lot more about Burundi than I did before. Glad you are now chilling out in Uganda, and looking forward to seeing you soon.

Very good profile. We're getting a good sense from your blogs about how these former combatants emerge from the war and make the great cross-over to peace builders. Burundi seems very rich in social capital, which is not something you'd think from the conventional coverage.

I agree with you on the privacy bit - and about wanting to be able to mourn in peace. I encountered the same thing amongst some of the Lebanese community in cote d'Ivoire. And, as you say, just as we cannot understand their need for constant communal gatherings after a death in the family, so they cannot understand our need for privacy with just a card or letter to show sympathy. It seems there are some cultural divides that can't be breached with understanding.

I'm interested to hear more about CEDAC, and how their international friends can best help. Also, how can they use your profiles in their search to make change? What is the connection between story-telling and social change? We have our own ideas, but we'd love to hear from you and them.
