Fellow: Dina Buck

United Organisation for Batwa Development in Uganda

• Dina’s Biography

  

  Dina Buck is honored to serve again as a summer Peace Fellow with the Advocacy Project, returning to Uganda to focus on Batwa rights with the United Organisation for Batwa Development in Uganda (UOBDU). UOBDU, located in the Kisoro District in southwestern Uganda, is a Batwa-directed organization that has established substantive ties with the Batwa communities in the area. UOBDU focuses particularly on Batwa land rights, forest access, and sustainable livelihood development.

  Dina will complete a Master’s degree in International Human Rights at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at University of Denver, with concentrations in both sustainable development and international administration and law, in June 2011. Dina’s undergraduate degrees include a BA in Philosophy with a certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a BS in Environmental Policy and Assessment from Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University.

  Dina served as a summer 2010 AP Peace Fellow with the Kampala-based World Peasants/Indigenous Organization (WPIO), now called the East and Central Africa Association for Indigenous Rights (ECAAIR), which focuses on Batwa rights in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
