Fellow: Corey Black

• Corey’s Biography

  

  Corey Black is a recent master’s graduate in international politics from the University of Edinburgh. His research interests lie in structural forces and power and political mobilization, along with environmental politics and policies. His thesis explored why it is easier to mobilize the public around some political issues, and not others. He also holds an undergraduate degree in political studies from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

  Prior to moving to Edinburgh, Corey worked in communications for an author and his consulting business, and lead copywriting and marketing initiatives. After returning to Canada, Corey has conducted environmental and energy policy research for Canadian federal Member of Parliament Gerard Kennedy, and worked as part of his communications and outreach team for his 2011 federal re-election campaign. Corey has also been involved with numerous on-campus non-governmental organizations, focusing mostly on health, poverty, and environmental issues.

  While at the Kathmandu-based Jagaran Media Center as an Advocacy Project Peace Fellow, Corey’s mandate is to help report, research, and expose the human rights abuses against the minority Dalit caste. Working across multiple media platforms, and with local journalists, Corey hopes to provide a voice for the marginalized Dalit people.
