Today, armed with my faithful camera, I set out to capture the essence of the contentious battle between Keiko Fujimori and Ollanta Humala, to be decided tomorrow in the second round of Peru’s presidential election. This is what I found:

Fellow: Catherine Binet

Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team (EPAF)

• Catherine’s biography

  

  Catherine Binet is a graduate student in International Development and Global Studies at the University of Ottawa, Canada. She is specifically interested in issues of local-global articulations, as well as conflict and post-conflict situations, with a special emphasis on Latin America. Catherine completed her undergraduate studies in International Development and Hispanic Languages at McGill University, where she graduated with first class honours. She has previously interned at EDUCA, a Mexican NGO that promotes community development and social organization to improve the quality of life and strengthen democracy in poor and indigenous communities in the department of Oaxaca.

  Catherine will be working with The Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team (Equipo Peruano de Antropologia Forense-EPAF), a Lima-based NGO searching for and recovering the identify of individuals forcibly disappeared during Peru's internal conflict (1982-2000), and seeking justice for family members. She is both excited and honoured to advocate for the important contribution provided by EPAF in the country's justice and reconciliation process.

  Catherine has spent several years living, working, traveling, and conducting research abroad. She believes her experience in multicultural settings, her academic background and her work experiences will be an asset to her work as an Advocacy Project peace fellow.
