December 12, 2008, Sacramento, Calif: An AP Peace Fellow who worked on women’s health issues in Nepal will be displaying photos from her fellowship at an exhibit in California Saturday.
The show, titled Mahila, will take place at Old Soul at the Weatherstone on December 13, during the Second Saturday Art Walk. The coffee house is located at 812 21st St. (21st and H) in Sacramento.
Peace Fellow Libby Abbott volunteered in Nepal this past summer, and profiled women suffering from uterine prolapse (UP). UP is a debilitating condition in which the muscles supporting the uterus weaken, causing it to descend into the vaginal canal. Some of the women live for years with the uterus completely outside of the body. A third need immediate hysterectomies.
All proceeds from the photo exhibit will benefit the Women’s Reproductive Rights Program (CAED-WRRP), a Nepali organization dedicated to reducing gender discrimination and the prevalence of uterine prolapse through grassroots advocacy.
Update (12/15): This event was a huge success and raised more than $1,000 for the Women’s Reproductive Rights Program in Nepal. AP would like to thank everyone that came out and contributed to the cause.
