"Speaking with locals and living in a country is the best way to learn about the real lives of citizens, not just the stories in the mainstream media. I will be more critical of what I read as a result of this experience. I also feel even more grateful for my education, and I feel a stronger responsibility to assist others who do not have resources or access to opportunities in their communities."

Katie Wroblewski and the Youth Cultural Centre (YCC)

Katie Wroblewski is an AP Peace Fellow with The Advocacy Project’s partner organization, the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC). She is originally from Buchanan, Michigan and received her BA with highest honors in history from the University of Michigan. After graduation, she spent a year at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. Katie then continued her study of European history at Indiana University-Bloomington, where she earned her MA in 2006. 

Katie is currently a JD candidate at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. Her areas of interest include international law, human rights, European union law, and immigration. 

Katie is spending the summer with the ISC’s Civil Society Strengthening Project (CSSP) in Macedonia. More specifically, she is working with the Youth Cultural Centre (YCC) in Bitola, where she is assisting staff in developing a program to promote volunteerism and raise awareness of environmental issues. She will also work with YCC staff to organize cultural and humanitarian activities.
