Beba Hadzic is the director and founder of BOSFAM, based in Tuzla, BiH. Prior to the war in Bosnia, Beba was principal, as well as teacher at the Srebrenica Primary School. After seeking refuge in Tuzla during the war, Beba approached the relief agency Oxfam to begin the pilot weaving project which is BOSFAM today. Beba has consistently been a devoted advocate of the displaced from Srebrenica, as well as the victims of the tragedy. Through her strong leadership, BOSFAM has evolved and taken on new projects, most recently the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt. Email Beba!
Shweta Dewan is the Advocacy Project’s Peace Fellow working with BOSFAM this summer. She is currently a graduate student at Columbia University pursuing a dual-degree in international affairs and public health, where her focus is in economic/political development and forced migration. Shweta was born and brought up in Zambia, which has greatly influenced her outlook on development and her understanding of society. After receiving her BA from UT Austin, Shweta worked with the UN high Commissioner for Refugees in Zambia. She also worked at the American Institutes for Research and UNICEF prior to beginning her master’s program in the United States. Email Shweta!
Alison Morse was the AP Peace Fellow working with BOSFAM in 2007. She recently completed a master’s degree in law and diplomacy at Tufts University’s Fletcher School. Her studies focused on development economics and human security. Alison received her BA in internationd relations from Mount Holyoke College. Prior to graduate school, Alison worked for the International Institute, a Boston-based nonprofit that provides comprehensive services for refugees and immigrants in the Boston area. Alison recently presented the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt and spoke about BOSFAM’s work at the Center for Balkan Development in Boston. She plans to continue her involvement with the project and will be speaking about and presenting the quilt at RACCOON (Reconciliation and Culture Cooperative Network, New York) on July 12, 2008. Ria Kulenovic is the Executive Director of Center for Balkan Development. The Center for Balkan Development promotes economic and social development in the Balkans and educates the American public about the wars, reconstruction, reconciliation, and peace. Ria acts as a team member for the Srebrenica Quilt project, together with a few other staff members and volunteers from Advocacy Project and BOSFAM. Prior to working with CDB, Ria served as a Program Director for the International Rescue Committee. Ria has been a volunteer and board member for several organizations including the Refugee Women's Network, IRC's Community Collaboratives for Refugee Women and Children, Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children, and Jewish Vocational Services. She holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts Boston and her main focus is refugee women and children' issues. Ria is motivated by humanitarian ideals inspired by her own experience as a refugee. Email Ria!
Alison Sluiter graduated from Georgetown University in May 2008 witha BS in Foreign Service. While at Georgetown, she majored in Russian, Central Asian, and East European Studies and received a certificate in Justice and Peace Studies. She spent her junior year studying abroad in Warsaw and Berlin. Alison is currently working with The Advocacy Project as an outreach intern, focusing on the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt campaign. Alison hopes to pursue a degree in conflict resolution in 2009 and will volunteer in Uganda this fall. Email Alison!
