The Srebrenica Memorial Quilt is intended for use by Bosnians in their advocacy, whether they live in Bosnia or abroad. The Quilt was launched on July 11, 2007 in St. Louis, Missouri.

New York:
- Astoria, (March 19, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter presented BOSFAM’s work and the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt at the BiH Islamic Center of New York. The community was so moved by Ms Hadzic’s presentation and BOSFAM’s goals that they donated $800 which will allow BOSFAM to weave an entire memorial quilt. - New York, (March 19, 2009) AP, BAACBH, The Columbia University Center for the Study of Human Rights, and Lidia Bastianich co-sponsored a fundraising lunch for Beba Hadzic at Ms Bastianich’s Manhattan restaurant, Felidia. Ms Bastianich personally congratulated Beba Hadzic for her efforts promote truth and justice in BiH. Read more about the lunch.
- New York, (March 19, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter met with the BiH Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Ivan Barbalic. Mr Barbalic expressed his support for BOSFAM and its campaign to bring justice to the victims and survivors of genocide in Srebrenica.
- New York, (March 13, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter spoke at Columbia University at an event sponsored by the Harriman Institute called “The Economic Hardships of Bosnian Women: Examples from Srebrenica.” Former AP Peace Fellow Shweta Dewan, a Columbia University grad student, presented BOSFAM’s work to interested Columbia students last fall.
- Columbia University, New York (November 11, 2008) The Srebrenica Memorial Quilt was displayed at a panel discussion on the history and future of Bosnia. The event was sponsored by The Center for the Study of Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs Working Group, Human Rights Working Group, and Rightslink. Former AP Peace Fellow Sweta Dewan and Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter particpated in the panel.
- Syracuse, (October 16, 2008) AP intern Alison Sluiter presented the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt to the Islamic Cultural Center of Bosniaks of Syracuse.
- Hamilton, (October 16, 2008) Colgate University student Daniela Koci organized a presentation of the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt and explained the project to interested students. The quilt will be displayed in the university library for the next several weeks.
- Utica, (October 12, 2008) The Srebrenica Memorial Quilt was displayed at the mosque of the Bosnian Islamic Association of Utica.
- Queens, (October 4, 2008) The Srebrenica Memorial Quilt was displayed at the RACCON Community Fair in Astoria Park in Queens, New York. BOSFAM products were sold and former AP Peace Fellow Janet Rabin discussed her work in Serbia and Bosnia with Women in Black.
- Hamilton, (September12 - present) Colgate University's Center for Outreach,Volunteerism, and Education (COVE) displayed the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt.
- Utica, (September 12, 2008) AP Executive Director Iain Guest presented the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt to the Bosnian Islamic Association of Utica, New York.
- New York, (July 30, 2008) The RACCOON women's group displayed the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt at their monthly meeting. AP intern Alison Sluiter gave a presentation about the project's recent developments.
- New York, (July 12, 2008) RACCOON (Reconciliation and Culture Cooperative Network) and AP partnered to display the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt for the first time in New York. Former AP Peace Fellow Alison Morse gave a presentation on the quilt and her work with BOSFAM.
Washington, DC:
- Washington, DC (July, 17 2009)
Damir Dzanko, Deputy Chief if Mission of the BiH Embassy, joined AP and spoke at the second “Remembering Srebrenica” event. Mr. Dzanko helped honor the victims of the genocide with other attendees and the AP staff. Videos and photos were shared by AP fellows who attended the burial ceremony in Potocari, Srebrenica. - Washington, DC (July, 14 2009) AP hosted a special exhibit, “Remembering Srebrenica”, to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the genocide. The “Weaver’s Quilt” was highlighted along with other traditional works made by the women of BOSFAM. In addition, a multimedia presentation of photos and videos create by 2009 Peace Fellows who attended the burial ceremony in Potocari, Srebrenica.
- Washington, DC (March 11, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic and members of the AP staff met with Sebastian Gräfe and Liane Shalatek of the Heinrich Böll Foundation to express their thanks for the Foundation’s financial support of BOSFAM. A generous grant from the Foundation made Beba Hadzic’s speaking tour in the US possible.
- Washington, DC (March 10, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, AP Executive Director Iain Guest, The Heinrich Böll Foundation’s Program Director Sebastian Gräfe, and Former Bosnian Ambassador to the United States Dr. Bisera Turkovic spoke at Bosnian Women’s Day, an event at the United States Capitol sponsored by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas). Two of the Srebrenica Memorial Quilts were shown and Congresswoman Johnson expressed her sincere interest in women’s peacebuilding initiatives in BiH.
- Washington, DC (November 2008) AP Executive Director Iain Guest spoke on a panel about his work in BiH during the 90s at Theater J’s performance of “Honey Brown Eyes,” a play about the war in BiH, on November 9, 2008. AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter participated in a similar panel discussion on November 30, 2008. AP was able to fundraise on BOSFAM’s behalf via ticket sales and the sale of BOSFAM products at the performance. The Srebrenica Memorial Quilt was displayed at the performance on November 30, 2008.
- Washington, DC (October 2, 2008) Pangea and IFC Presented Women Entrepreneurs of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday October 2nd at the Pangea Artisan Market & Cafe Washington, DC. Bosnian handicrafts including products from BOSFAM were sold during the event.
- Washington, DC (September 18, 2008) Georgetown's Human Rights Forum,the Institue for the Study of International Migration, and The Advocacy Project presented director and writer Harun Mehmedinovic's fim In the Name of the Son. Mr Mehmedinovic survived the siege of Sarajevo and later immigrated to the US. His film tells the story of a Bosnian Muslim and a Bosnian Serb who met during the war and reconnect in the US under very different circumstances. The event also featured the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt.
- Washington, DC (July 11, 2008) The third Srebrenica Memorial quilt was displayed for a second time in the US. The Bosniak American Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina used the quilt at an event on Capitol Hill. Members of Bosnian Caucus in the 110th US Congress saw the quilt.
- Washington, DC (July 10, 2008) The third memorial quilt was displayed at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of an event commemorating the 13th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre. This was the first time for the third memorial quilt, which commemorates family members of the Bosniak diaspora in the US, to be exhibited.
Missouri:
- St. Louis, (March 8, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic met with members of the Association of Srebrenica Genocide Survivors – St. Louis. The group was presented with the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt which was sponsored by members of the diaspora who live in St. Louis. Seven new panels for the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt were sponsored.
- St. Louis, (March 8, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter were interviewed for the Bosnian diaspora TV station Bostel. The televised appearance was made possible through support from Murat Muratovic and the Bosnian Media Group.
- St. Louis, (March 7, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, and BAACBH Board Member Murat Muratovic spoke at a well-attended Bosniak diaspora event sponsored by the St. Louis Congress of North American Bosniaks, the Association of Srebrenica Genocide Survivors, the Association of Concentration Camp Survivors USA – St. Louis, the Islamic Community of St. Louis, the St. Louis Youth Circle, Sevdah St. Louis, the Djerdan Folk Dance Group, TV Bostel, and the Bosnian Media Group. This was the first time for the Diaspora Srebrenica Memorial Quilt to be displayed in St. Louis. The Diaspora Quilt commemorates murdered relatives of many Bosniaks who currently live in St. Louis.
- St Louis, (July 8, 2007) The first 20 panels of the quilt were displayed at the Islamic mosque in St Louis, which has the largest Bosnian population in the United States. The event received wide coverage in the local press.
Illinois:
- Chicago, (March 7, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, President of the Srebrenica Association of Chicago Enes Karic, and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter gave a presentation about genocide in Srebrenica and BOSFAM’s important work with female survivors at the Sultzer Public Library in Chicago. The event was arranged by Selena Seferovic and other members of the Bosnian American Cultural Association (BACA). Over $500 was raised for the BOSFAM weavers.
- Chicago, (March 6, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter met with BAACBH Board Member Mirsad Radonja and several BAACBH Board of Trustees Members on Friday evening in Chicago.
- Chicago, (March 6, 2009) BOSFAM Director Beba Hadzic, BAACBH Executive Director Elmina Kulasic, and AP Outreach Coordinator Alison Sluiter met with Bosnian Consul General Eldin Kajevic at the BiH Consulate in Chicago. Mr Kajevic expressed his intention to support BOSFAM’s work and assist with the promotion of BOSFAM’s products in the US.
Massachusetts:
- North Hampton, (November 21, 2008) The Memorial Quilt was featured at Mount Holyoke College the Srebrenica during a panel on post conflict Bosina and Rwanda. The panel was entitled "Post-Conflict Reconciliation in Bosnia and Rwanda – Beyond National Recovery".
- Boston, (June 4, 2008) Peter Galbraith, Former U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, spoke at a Center for Balkan Development reception. Former AP BOSFAM fellow Alison Morse presented the Srebrenica Memorial Quilt and discussed BOSFAM’s work.
- Boston, (February 12, 2008) The second 20 panels of the quilt were displayed at Boston College at an event organized by the Center for Balkan Development. AP Peace Fellow Alison Morse, who coordinated the project form Bosnia in 2007, made a presentation.
Michigan:
- Detroit, (April 15, 2008) The first quilt was displayed at a large gathering of Bosnians at the Bosnian Islamic Center in Detroit. It attracted over $500 from new sponsors.
- Michigan State University (January 15- August 24, 2008) The first panels were displayed at an exhibition on quilts and human rights, alongside more than 40 quilts with a strong human rights theme. AP Director Iain Guest made a presentation to students and faculty (March 24, 2008).
Canada:
- Toronto, (July 11, 2008) The Srebrenica Memorial Quilt was exhibited for the first time in Canada. AP Executive Director Iain Guest presented the quilt to the Bosnian Islamic Center of Toronto on the 13th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre.
