Nepali Advocacy Group to Hold Convention This Summer

June 24, 2008, Washington, DC – The Nepali-American Society for Oppressed (NASO) Community will hold its first-ever convention in Washington, DC on August 9.

A number of speakers are scheduled to discuss contemporary issues related to the elimination of all forms of social oppression, including caste discrimination in Nepal. NASO is an outreach partner of The Advocacy Project, and two AP Peace Fellows are currently in Nepal working for Dalit rights.

Dhararm Bishwakarm, the President of NASO, called the convention a historic gathering.

“We are expecting participants to arrive from coast to coast and from north to south in the Americas,” he said.
