"Speaking with locals and living in a country is the best way to learn about the real lives of citizens, not just the stories in the mainstream media. I will be more critical of what I read as a result of this experience. I also feel even more grateful for my education, and I feel a stronger responsibility to assist others who do not have resources or access to opportunities in their communities."

Lauren Katz and Human Rights in Sri Lanka

Georgetown Law

Lauren will be working in Sri Lanka where she will be advocating for victims of torture and other human rights violations. She recently completed studies at the Georgetown University Law Center, where she graduated with honors. She earned her B.A. from the University of Maryland in Government and Politics, with a concentration on international studies.  Prior to entering law school, Lauren volunteered at the University of Maryland HELP Center and Washington, D.C. domestic violence shelters.  While at Georgetown, Lauren volunteered at the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic Violence and the Bread for the City Legal Clinic.

Lauren was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland.  She is excited to employ her knowledge, experience and enthusiasm in making a difference for Sri Lankans.
