Sponsoring a Fellow
The Advocacy Project is seeking sponsors for fellowships. AP expects that sponsorships will bring the following benefits to the sponsor, to the partner, to AP and to the fellow:
Sponsor: Sponsors will have the satisfaction of supporting AP’s mission of social justice, while underwriting a brave organization of their choosing. At the same time, they will mentor a graduate student who is embarking on a challenging assignment. AP hopes that sponsors will meet with their fellow before deployment, follow the blogs, and help the fellow to organize an event on return. AP will publicize the generosity of sponsors if this is appropriate, and even arrange for on-site visits to the respective partner.
Partner: Sponsors will help to build a constituency for AP’s community-based partners in the US. AP is particularly interested in tapping into the diaspora.
AP: Sponsorships will put the fellowship AP program on a stronger, more sustained footing, by offsetting costs and building a strong foundation for the future. They will also help to extend the useful life of a fellowship beyond the summer months.
Fellow: Past interns have been empowered by the knowledge that their work is followed, and appreciated, back home. This will be furthered by having an individual, or group, that has sponsored their fellowship.
Benefits to the Fellow:
- $1,000 stipend.
- Medical insurance policy, including evacuation insurance.
- An intensive three-day training course in Washington, DC.
- A $200 travel allowance for out of state Fellows to attend the training.
- 24/7 support by DC-based AP staff throughout the deployment.
- A staff member – the AP Fellowship Coordinator – who supports the fellow during the fundraising, training, deployment, and post-deployment periods (March – December).
- Support in developing original research and the opportunity to publish on the AP website.
