Responsibilities
- Help organize and prepare recruitment materials for the Summer 2009 Fellows for Peace program
- Assist Fellowship Manager with program monitoring and evaluation by compiling data and analyzing program outputs and outcomes.
- Prepare country-specific fellowship manuals for each field placement.
- Liaise with field-based Peace Fellows when needed.
- Assist Fellowship Manager with the planning of The Advocacy Project’s annual Ambassador’s Reception.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate coursework in related field.
- Strong interest in advocacy, outreach, and public relations for human rights organizations/issues.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with MS Office software (Word, Outlook, etc.) required; experience with technical troubleshooting a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Human Rights Partnership Intern
Reports to: Tassos Coulaloglou, Fellowship Manager
Status: 15-20 hours per week, flexible schedule

Dates: approx. Sept 15 to Dec 15

Responsibilities
- Assist Fellowship Manager in responding to inquiries from partners.
- Help in the maintenance of database of partners.
- Assist in researching human rights issues that prospective partners are working on.
- Research on funding and other potential avenues of support for partners.
- Assist in developing a database of potential allies in the US for partners in the field.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of social networking websites for partners.
- Assist in developing promotional material for partners and the partnership program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate coursework in related field.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge about and/or interest in human rights.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with MS Office software (Word, Outlook, etc.) required; experience with technical troubleshooting a plus.

Human Rights Networking & Outreach Intern
Reports to: Marina Krikorian, Administrative & Outreach Coordinator
Status: 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

Dates: Approximately September 15 – December 15

Responsibilities
- Seek out and develop new constituencies for all of The Advocacy Project’s community-based partner organizations.
- Develop networking databases for all of AP’s community-based partner organizations.
- Assist in the development of The Advocacy Project’s educational outreach. This includes planning educational events/presentations with schools, diaspora groups, churches, etc.
- Follow up on outreach projects started this summer.
- Assist returning Peace Fellows to plan outreach events in the U.S.
- Liaise with media.
- Track The Advocacy Project in the media.
- Keep database of Peace Fellows’ outreach efforts (media, blogs, radio, newspaper and blog mentions, etc).
- Promote The Advocacy Project’s news bulletins.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate coursework in related field.
- Experience in program design and development preferred.
- Strong interest in advocacy, outreach, and public relations for human rights organizations/issues.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills (presentation experience preferred).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) required.
- Experience networking with other groups a plus.
- Knowledge of diaspora groups a plus.
- Academic knowledge of diaspora and diaspora movements a plus.

Human Rights Campaigns Outreach Intern ( 2 Positions)

We have three major campaigns that we would like to support with interns this Fall:
- Travellers at Dale Farm, Essex, UK.
- Torture Victims in Sri Lanka.
- Small arms violence in cooperation with IANSA (International Action Network on Small Arms).
Please specify which campaign(s) you would like to work on in your cover letter. Positions will be clarified after the interview process. Other campaigns may be developed throughout the fall.

Human Rights Campaigns in Nepal Intern

Responsibilities
- Help organize, support, and implement two campaigns – to end caste-based discrimination and improve reproductive health – in Nepal.
- Assist Executive Director of The Advocacy Project with US-based campaign activities. Tasks may include researching and contacting foundations in the US for funding, researching and contacting grassroots groups in the US to build a national constituency, and writing/producing informational materials (website, newsletter, blogs, etc).
- Support Peace Fellows returning from Nepal with outreach events and media relations.
- Liaise between The Advocacy Project and our community-based partner organizations in Nepal. Facilitate coordination of US-based and Nepal-based components of the two campaigns.
- Research reproductive health and caste-based discrimination in Nepal and globally.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate coursework in related field.
- Strong interest in advocacy, outreach, and human rights.
- Interest and/or experience in women's issues, reproductive rights, and/or Nepal a plus.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) required.

Human Rights Communications Intern

- Assist with updating website content regularly.
- Manage AP’s social networking sites
- Working on various website projects, which many include: working on the AP home page, organizing and editing the website, working on tech tutorials, creating maps and timelines, looking for new and creative ways to promote our blogging portal, assisting with our ongoing media database and promoting AP news bulletins.
- Help with daily office duties.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Help edit and produce video, audio and podcasts of human rights related issues, including looking for new and creative ways to promote our videos.
- Help manage all video content produced by AP.
