- AIA has helped a trafficking victim, Ms Celestina Ifeacho Joseph by publicizing her story, appealing for a lawyer, sending Ms. Joseph’s case to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and asking the US immigration service to reconsider her deportation order. For more information about this case, see our bulletin: Nigerian Diaspora Raises the Alarm as Trafficked Victim Faces Deportation from Texas.
- Africans in America Inc. is now lobbying for a change in the TVPA to make it more favorable to survivors. Although the law treats trafficked women as victims, not criminals, and offers them the chance to receive a special immigration status ("T visa") in return for denouncing their trafficker, only 112 "T visas" were issued in 2005 - a small percentage of those who are actually trafficked. AIA Inc. is seeking an amnesty for all trafficked survivors in the United States, and an amendment in the TVPA that will remove the unofficial three-year limitation.
- AIA runs a New Immigrant Program that helps African immigrants adjust by providing services such as information awareness and referral services, support, socio-cultural counseling, civil rights awareness, enhanced case management, accompaniment, translation, advocacy and follow-up.
- AIA provides Human Trafficking Victims Services such as case management, service plan development, counseling and support, and cultural and social adjustment. The group also raises awareness about the trafficking issue as well as conducts educational services for social service providers and law enforcement.
- AIA promotes awareness about Advance Fee Fraud in order to stem the corrupt practice.
- AIA provides consulting services such as expert analysis on human trafficking symptoms, interpretation, planning and development, organizing and research.
