AP is a Catalogue for Philanthropy charity. In 2005, AP was selected by the Catalogue as one of Greater Washington's best small charities. Charities were selected by a group of 50 professional grantmakers and leaders at thirty foundations and nonprofit organizations. All Catalogue for Philanthropy charities are evaluated for distinction, merit, cost-effectiveness, and accomplishment.

This is what the group said about AP:

These days it’s a commonplace: we live in an information age. What perhaps we don’t see as clearly is the way that information can empower a newly emerging civil society. Launching a campaign, building partnerships, advocating for a cause, reaching an audience - all these have enormous capacity to make change happen.

The Advocacy Project has worked on some 20 campaigns (most in countries emerging from conflict), helping its partners use new communications technologies to generate interest in and support for their causes.

Each partner is assigned an intern, receives an online news service, learns to disseminate information through up-to-date technology, and benefits from organized events with fellow advocates in North America and Europe.

The goal is to expand membership and develop community support for a wide range of projects - launching an international peace network in Nepal; responding to the human rights dimensions of the tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka; advocating for the education of Afghan girls; or supporting widows of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre by helping to build a website that sells their woven carpets...online! Using information as a point of entry, and building the capacity of partners through tailored projects, means new hope for young and old alike. Your advocacy - and philanthropy - goes a long way here.

FIND A PARTNER

The Advocacy Project develops partnerships with advocates on the frontline and with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). In so doing, we take our cue from partners and tailor any support to their needs.
