AP Fellow Raises $1,170 for Blind Students in Bangladesh

01 Dec

November 30, 2008, Dhaka, Bangladesh: Officials at Plural Investments LLC, based in New York, have donated $1,170 to the Blind Education and Rehabilitation Organization (BERDO), an AP partner that advocates for the blind in Dhaka.

The connection was made by Danita Topcagic, a graduate student at the University of Denver who served as a Peace Fellow with BERDO this year. BERDO is a non-profit organization using micro-credit to empower the disabled community, raising awareness about disabilities and advocating for disability rights in Bangladesh.

The money donated by Plural Investments will go to purchase Braille books for BERDO’s library and school, and to support information technology (IT) training for people with disabilities.
